SaaS Trends for 2018

Cloud-based SaaS Apps experienced expansive growth in 2017. 33% of high-performing US companies used more SaaS apps than in 2016 while averaging 16 App per company. Solutions focused on Customer Management and Workplace Collaboration were some of the most popular Apps. 83% of those businesses developed SaaS strategies and considered cloud-based service providers 2017. Same businesses expressed no such intentions the previous year.

The trend shows no signs of slowing down as the SaaS industry is focusing on a few key features for 2018 and beyond. One of those features being AI (Adaptive intelligence) and machine learning. In the case for SaaS Apps, ‘AI’ refers to intelligent and automated technology. As Sebastian Lambert of Financial Online explains, SaaS industry is looking to adopt the strides being made in the field of artificial intelligence and adapt them for use in SaaS platforms. Take for example, data analysis. Data analysis is a keystone of any SaaS App and with the inclusion and adaptation of AI and machine learning for these platforms, we process more data than before and more importantly, process the larger amount of data more efficiently as well. We can also look forward to AI being used for predictive business analysis, intelligent chatbots, and hence, usher in the AI age for the SaaS industry.

According to leading SaaS companies, the industry is waiting for AI-infused apps with unprecedented speed and adaptability. And perhaps most importantly: Adaptive intelligence, where these apps are designed to learn and continuously improve functionality as they are used.

Some SaaS analysts also suggest that Vertical-specific SaaS is going to be the next big thing. Previously, the SaaS industry has catered to solutions for board-based business operations, the focus now will be on offering industry specific Apps which allow for customization, flexibility and cost effectiveness.

The modern SaaS industry expects flexibility, efficiency and personalization. SaaS based solutions providing these components to their users will emerge successful in 2018 and beyond.
